After leaving Madison, I went on to study engineering at City College and then did grad work at Columbia (finishing in '69 with a doctorate). In 1967 I married Barbara (nee Weissman ---Sheepshead '62) and we have two children Rachel and David and two grandchildren. After Columbia, I was very fortunate to be at Bell Labs in its "golden era" for 32 years; I "retired" in 2001 as a Senior VP, became an EE prof at Columbia, and later joined some friends in a Silicon Valley telecom start-up company (we lived in Palo Alto, CA for ~ 4 years).
