Richard's Story
College
I started at St. John's in Brooklyn in 1956, on the Korean G.I. bill after serving in the U.S. Army. I first majored in business but quickly discovered I liked literature much more than, for example, accounting, so I switched to a liberal arts major. f non-academic personal problems I had to drop out twice, which explains my long span from 1956 to graduation in 1967.
Military
Basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey -- 8 weeks of infantry training + 8 more of advanced infantry.
About 16 months in Japan, office work
(It figures with the Army; train for infantry, sit in office.)
Many great weekends in Tokyo and Yokahama. Liked the Japanese people.
