Richard's Story
After high school, I finished a semester at Longview Community College in the latter half of my senior year, and left for the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman. I served 2 1/2 years in Baumholder, Germany with the 92nd MP Company, 1st Platoon. After leaving Baumholder, I was stationed at Ft. Devens, MA for a year on a really boring security assignment. I left active duty after that and joined the Reserves, and became a Psychological Operations Specialist (Propagandist) part-time while at college at Central MO State University where I double-majored in Criminal Justice Administration and History. I met my wife Sarah, and we've been married for just shy of 17 years. I spent about 3 years as a retail assistant and co-manager with Wal-Mart and Hobby Lobby, thinking to get into loss prevention at a higher level, but retail became too obnoxious, and I quit that and joined up with the MO Board of Probation & Parole, who I've work...Expand for more
ed with for the past 14 years. During that time, I worked as a drug court officer, sex offender officer, fugitive specialist, regular officer, court liaison/violator unit specialist, and domestic violence specialist. I worked in the Kansas City, MO area for about 10 years, and have spent the last 4 years in a rural office just outside of KCMO. I've been specializing in domestic violence case management for the past 7 years, and I'm a number of statewide task forces for my agency and for MCADSV (MO Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence). Right now I'm involved in helping create the state's first rural DV (domestic violence) court, and am in the middle of helping to systematize our policies for a more effective agency response to DV. I'm a Board Member, and soon to be Board President of the House of Hope shelter in Lexington, MO. I've got two beautiful daughters, Rosie and Mary, ages 13 and 7, and two insane cats.
