Richard's Story

Hello everyone! In a nutshell, I think I've met expectations so far: As far as my professional life goes I graduated from the UW School of Pharmacy in 1982 (I had the pleasure of graduating along with fellow WV '77 grad Marla [Sheeley] Gunn). I have an appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor from the University of Washington's School of Pharmacy (35+ years on the affiliate faculty now). Over the course of my career I've had the opportunity to work with some wonderful people and go beyond the normal "grind" of the job. To date I've had about 20 peer-reviewed articles/reports published in various professional journals (see my LinkedIn page). I've been fortunate to be able to work with an internationally-renowned pain management physician to develop novel drug formulations for some fairly high tech infusion devices. These therapies are now in use both nation- and worldwide. Additionally, in 1992 I received one of the first Certificates of Innovation from the American College of Physician Executives for a program I created to provide HIV-infected individuals an alternative treatment option in their last few months of life. I've also had an entry in the Who's Who In America for the past few years and in February of 2019 was awarded an Albert Nelson Marquis Who's Who in America Lifetime Achievement Award. On top of that, I was an early convert to the use of computers and the internet in pharmacy and beginning in the mid-90s lectured pharmacists nationwide on how to use the 'net for fun and profit. My professional web site (Just Google "Consultant Pharmacist" since they don't allow web sites on this message board), created around 1995, won one of the early "web site of the week" awards from US Pharmacist magazine. I only wish I had enough time nowadays to continue to maintain it. I've also been a contributor or editorial board member of a few professional texts and at one point even had my own pharmacy news ...Expand for more
site ("The Molitor Monitor"). Personally, I'm still married to my superfrau Brigitte (37+ years now). Instead of adding more children to our overpopulated world we've chosen to spend their tuition and PlayStation money on rather nice vacations and dinners for ourselves (Selfish? Well, not quite as selfish as contributing some godawful amount of poop-infested diapers into a landfill). We've been to 6 of the 7 continents, been beachside to the 4 major oceans, and look forward to getting that last continent off the list (although traveling that far to say g'day to a penguin does require some justification and a healthy 401(k)). Along the way we've hit over 40 countries and a large portion of the USA. The joy of meeting a world of people (rich, poor, modern, or traditional) has truly enriched our lives. I still love a good game of tennis although the competitive years sort of got cut short when I broke my leg luging in Austria back in '97 (should have attended the 20th reunion instead!). Every now and then Mike Reese and I get together to reminisce how we won Wimbledon but we usually don't remember that until our 3rd or 4th beer. Photography has become a hobby that I'm committed to getting better at (a recent issue of the WA State AAA magazine Journeys published one of my Easter Island photos). Our 2023 vacation was a return visit to Bavaria and Austria (via London) to visit Brigitte's family. A non-family highlight was 4 days in the little town of Zell am See, located lakeside in the Austrian Alps. I've post updated trip photos on Facebook. We've also had a blast hosting some of you WV wine-loving alumni for afternoons of tasting and revelry here in the Woodinville area (photos on the WV'77 reunion page--again, you have to be signed up). Perhaps a WV-7 will get organized in the near future (?). Cheers, Richard P.S. I nac llits klat sdrawkcab (and French, German, some Italian and, when forced to, Spanish)
