Richard's Story

Guess I'm a mite leery of sharing a lot of my story. So I'll stress the highlights: I've been on a spiritual journey now for the past few years. My Dad passed away on Father's day of 2010, and I broke up with my partner shortly thereafter. Within 6 weeks of the breakup, I came to the conclusion it was time to live my life, so I said goodbye to being a legal assistant. I just couldn't take it anymore. 2011-2013 saw me trying on a lot of new possibilities. I visited some intentional communities in the South, including the Radical Faerie run Short Mountain Sanctuary in Tennessee. (I really like the land in that state. Something about it...) Now I've ended up in Laramie, a place I like surprisingly. I guess it's because it's a university town, but i am not built for big cities alas. I now work as the manager of an online astrology website's Experts pages. My studies of astrology and tarot since I was 7 years old have led to this amazing job where I get to help others with their problems. I'm single again. Hard for a gay fellow to be in Laramie. I shall try to find the love of my life, at some point. Right now between my job and my screenwriting, I don't really have a lot of time. The highlights of my life previous: During the Summer of 2008, I staged a production of "All in the Timing" by David Ives and I'm going to be directing Charles Ludlam's "Camille" in the spring of 2009. I went to NYU's Tisch School of the Arts in 1993 to get my MFA in Dramatic Writing, and lived in the East Village (or E.Vil as I called it) for 12 years. I still write, but not as much. ears I've struggled with the state of the arts in these unraveling States o' America. As I get older I see how important it is to pay attention to where you are right now. (Readings of Derrick Jensen and Daniel Quinn have really cleared through some of the debris.) Though I've written quite a bit of theater that's set in Denver (like "Adrenaline" actually!) and environs, or have Colorado-born characters. During the 12 years of being in NYC, the BIGGEST thing happened in my life: I lost 110 pounds. Most people at AHS will remember me as having been heavy. I struggled with weight all my life, not really understanding I had an eating disorder. I got up to 300 pounds before I was ready to surrender. Through the help of a 12 Step Program, I've been able to maintain a 110 pound weight loss for the past 5-1/2 years. My spiritual life is expanding--I've also discovered that I've always been a "heathen" at heart. Jody and I travel every 6 weeks or so for classes in being Feri Tradition shaman-priests. When I was younger, I wanted to be a priest in the RC church, but because I've never been one for conforming mindlessly to beliefs if they become toxic to me, I gave that idea up. I feel in my earthly connection that it's up to me to access divine wisdom and act as a cheerleader for my fellow humans, whether straight or gay, male or female or other, addict/fundamentalist or sober, what have you. Well, that's a start I suppose, for any who are curious about me. I've led quite an interesting life thus far, and I sense things are about to get REALLY interesting for all of us.
