Richard's Story
Life
20 years in the military, then retirement here in Sunny Florida, unfortunately my wife wanted a home of our own, so back to work I go. Been living here since 1995 and working in the hospital doing the same job I did in the Army. Met my wife in Germany, another soldier serving in the hospital. her name is Patricia and she has giving me two wonderful daughters now 29 and 27. She was also an Operating Room tech, but changed her job to become an LPN who is now working on becoming an RN. Have two dogs so we am never lonely.
School
Managed to get an Associates Degree through the Army night school program. Managed to get it through the University of Maryland.
Workplace
Worked at Brandon Regional Medical Center in the Operating Room for 17 years. New management came in and I became a un-necessary worker there, so moved on to working in Surgery Centers, first in Lakeland, Fl and now in Tampa, Fl. Now I am working at the VA Hospital in Bay Pines, which is located in St. Petersburg, Florida. Living in a 55+ com...Expand for more
munity in Ruskin Florida and loving it.
Military
20 years of the Army is enough for anyone, but I did enjoy my time in the military. Two tours in West Germany and various assignments in the states. Never did make it to Hawaii, but Germany was enjoyment enough. Did Basic Training at wonderful Fort Knox, Kentucky, those of you who have been there understand what I mean. Recieved my medical training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Learned how to be an Operating Room Tech there, my first post was Fort Campbell, Kentucky home of 101st Airborne, from there I went to Landstuhl, Germany, 2nd General Hospital, Medical Center for Europe, then back to Fort Devens, Massachusetts. I still say it the armpit of the world, but everyone has to have one bad assignment. Then its back to Frankfurt, Germany, 97th General Hospital, My last assignment was Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, affectionately known as Lost in the Woods, and it was in the middle of nowhere, but it was a great assignment. Then I retired in 1995 and moved to Forida.
