Richard's Story

T M I / Isn't that Special - I have always really enjoyed interacting with people and making them smile. Some of you may not know this about me ( and not that you care) but my dad raced hardtops and midgets at San Jose Speedway and all the other tracks around the bay area before becoming the flag man.I raced quarter midgets when I was 8, 9 and 10. I had a red satin racing jacket with "Little Richard" embroidered on it. I've almost always been lucky. Somewhere along the line I developed an in your face kind of show off attitude. It's probably due to coming from a dysfunctional family. I wanted to prove that I was OK. I have alot of underlying anger left over from my childhood probably related to being a victim of heightism. Yada yada yada , in 1979 I did the EST Training and achieved total enlightenment. I had a near death experience earlier this year and see life and people with more appreciation. I love you and really hope you are okay. I am far from perfect but I hope the world is a better place because of me. I lived at home and attended west valley college for three years at the old Campbell Elementary campus before moving to the new campus in Saratoga. I graduated in the spring '70 (liberal arts) and transferred to SJSU. I struggled due to my trouble writing and went on strike to protest Nixons invasion of Cambodia and never went back. I changed my major from education to nursing (my mom was a nurse) and returned to WVC to take the science courses required. I earned an AS in physical science and applied to nursing school but all the programs were impacted so I applied to Montana U and was accepted. Meanwhile I got my girlfriend pregnant, cancelled my plans of vagabonding in Europe with Roger Draper and going to nursing school and got married and went to work at A lumber yard running the saw. I was too young to be a husband / not ready for marriage but did the right thing ...Expand for more
and got married. We had a daughter, Sarah , and moved to Soquel. I got a job at St Cruz Lumber before being laid off following a huge fire that burned the warehouse down. Marceen bought a car (Fiat) with her brothers help. It blew a head gasket so Marceen had no car and missed her parents so she moved back to her parents and filed for divorce. Neither of us was happy. I stayed in St Cruz and would visit Sarah in StClara. My parents still lived on Esther Dr. and I eventually moved back home and saw Sarah every other weekend. I got hit by a car on my bike but "dodged a bullet" and was not permanently injured. While recooperating I answered a tv ad for Bay Valley Tech and 9 months later i graduated as an Electronic Tech and went to work immediately in Silicon Valley testing and fixing computers. I got laid off , got unemployment , moved to St Cruz where there weren't very many electronic jobs and enjoyed my time off playing frisbee on the beach and taking Sarah for overnight visits with Steve Ruork and his son or go up to Sea Ranch and visit Steve and his parents. When my little brother Ed was in high school my mom divorced my dad and moved to Modesto. I was a weekend father to Sarah and was nicknamed Disneyland Daddy by her maternal grandmother because I usually took Sarah to an amusement park or a trip or sleep over with her friends. I worked in Silicon Valley during the computer development stage. Manufacturing was still done in the valley so there were lots of technician jobs. I was still looking for answers in my personal life so I did a seminar called " Mwn Sex and Power " . I became a member of the South Bay Sterling Community and met my second wife Delia and started a family. We had two sons. William and Jonathan I am very proud of them. I became a nurse and got a job working at the state hospital ( Napa State mental hospital ). I moved to napa which is where I am retired.
