Richard "Dick"'s Story

Life 1935: Born at Chicago Lying-In hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Grew up on the far South Side. 1940-42: Attended Dixon Elementary (83rd & St. Lawrence). 1942-44: Attended Cook Elementary (82nd & Bishop). 1944-48: Attended and graduated from Oglesby Elementary (77th & Green). 1948-52: Attended and graduated from Calumet High School (81st & May). 1952-54: Attended Wilson Junior College. Worked for the Pullman Company and Northern Trust Bank. 1955-56: Served in U.S. Army Signal Corps: Fort Meade, Maryland and Berlin Germany. 1957: Married to Joyce Johnson (Morgan Park HS, 1953); six (6) children, seven (7) grandchildren. 1957-58:...Expand for more
Attended and worked for the University of Chicago. 1958-69: Employed in Chicago, Illinois by International Business Machines (IBM). 1969-82: Employed in Dallas, Texas by Electronic Data Systems (EDS). 1982-97: Self-employed in Dallas, Texas as a Computer Consultant. 1998-present: Retired; still live in Dallas, Texas. Joyce and I spend three to four months a year traveling in our RV visiting family and friends and seeing new sights around North America. I am sorry to announce that Dick Welch passed away on April 20, 2017 after a long battle with prostate cancer. He still had a Calumet High sweatshirt among his possessions.
