Rick's Story

Life I married just a few months after high school to Melanie Holmes. We have 2 daughters, Ericka born in 74, and Karla in 75. We divorced in 78 and I married in 79 to Charlene Randel-Barclay, class of 63 Huntington Park High. She has a daughter, Audra, born in 68, and together we now have a total of 8 grandchildren. I have been involved in the automobile business since 79 mostly in a managerial position. I owned and operated an automobile accessories business for 6 years and sold it in 98 to move out of Southern California. We built a home just steps from the beach in Vero Beach, FL and I loved the tropical lifestyle there but unfortunately, and after a great try of almost 7 years, Charlene was not able to completely adapt to the area. We searched several regions and found a wonderful area in the "Hill Country" of Texas. We purchased a home near the city of Boerne which is approximately 40 miles north of San Antonio. Boerne, pronounced "Burnee" is a wonderful German settlement with a population of only 9100. Surrounded by large and small ranches, rolling hills covered in oaks, and several lakes, rivers and creeks nearby. While there we joined our local Country Club and stayed busy golfing an...Expand for more
d making lots of new friends and enjoying our new environment. Charlene was a member of the Ladies Golf Assoc. and maintained herself busy playing a couple of times per week being involved in several of the charity events that they sponsor. I held a great managerial position at Jennings Anderson Ford, a nearby dealership, and was glad to be working far less hours than I've been accustomed to, which gave me time to improve my golf game plus to take advantage of the wonderful country roads to sightsee and ride my motorcycle. We have since moved to Gilbert, AZ to be closer to family. Charlene has a sister and their family in the area were we settled, plus it is only few hours drive to visit our family and friends in CA. We live in a gated golf community and have enjoyed our time here, even though it gets brutally hot for a couple of months in the summer. I am still working in the car business and currently hold a position as Finance Manager at a Chevrolet dealership nearby. My plans are to retire within the next 5 to 8 years and move back to the So Cal coastal area. I've kept in touch with a few of our classmates and still think Burbank was a great place to grow up in at the time that we were there.
