Rick's Story
After graduating from DePue High in 1963 I attended LPO Community College in LaSalle, Illinois for two years. Then completed my B.S. degree from Northern Illinois Universityin 1967. I immediately entered graduate school and completed my first Master's degree in 1968. In 1978 I completed a second M.S. degree in Educational Administration.
During my career I worked at Oregon High School for 10 years and Byron High School for 22 years. Both schools were located in northern Illinois. It was a wonderful 32 years with fantastic students, great parents and a terrific staff. I have many wonderful memories of both school districts.
I retired in June of 2000. My wife(Charlene) and I live on Anna Maria Island which is a small barrier island off the coast of Sarasota/Bradenton and 60 miles south of Tampa. We have one dog, an American Water Spaniel named Bay Breeze and one cat, a Maine Coon, named Deuce.
We have traveled extensively since our retirement and will continue to do so (God willing!!!)for a long time to come. We usually take two to three trips per year. We I have been to all 50 states, travelled to all 7 continents including the following countries: France, Germany, England, Ireland, Belgium, Greece, Portugal, Scotland, V...Expand for more
ietnam, Thailand, Singapore, China, Brazil, Peru, Lichenstein, Spain, Egypt, Mexico, Grand Cayman, Jamaica, Bahamas, Belgium, Luxemburg, Costa Rica, Argentina, Chile, Namibia, Zimbabwae, Botswana, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, and Antartica.
Our next planned trip is Sicily in May 2009. We plan to fly into Palermo, rent a car at the airport and simply travel the countryside for a month. As with many countries we visit, we stay away from "making any advanced reservations", other than the car. This allows us maximum flexibility and an opportunity to get "off the beaten path".
When we are not traveling, life is always on "island time". I wake up early, enjoy a four mile work out 7 days a week, consume all the wrong things (to undo any good my morning exercise did for me), visit with my friends at the pier, work in the yard, prepare dinner on the grill most days of the week, and enjoy absolutely beautiful sunrises, sunsets, white beaches, wild life, and the rest that sunny Florida has to offer.
My step son Derek and his wife Kam have one girl and two boys and so we are now officially GRANDPARENTS!! BEING CALLED "GRANDPA" MAKES ME SOUND OLD---BUT I AM ENJOYING EVERY MINUTE OF IT.
LIFE IS GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
