Rick's Story
Wow! it's been almost 30 years now since we were handed our diplomas by Mr. Adamson. Who would have thought!! Here we are now just shy of being 50 years wise. In retro-spect, time flew right on by as my dad told it would do when I was alot younger. (I didn't believe him at the time) Even though time seemed to fly by, alot was accomplished during that time.
First off, I'd like to say a big "How the heck are you all"? It's been a long time since any of you have herd from me. Well, I'm doing just fine up here in the last frontier.
Eight months after we graduated, I quit my job at the Hamburger Tree and moved back to Anchorage, AK. (remember when Dave Riker, Duane and I moved there, we were the frostie freeze brothers because we came from Alaska). Shortly after moving here, I joined the Painters and Allied Trades Union, (now known as IUPAT),as an apprentice painter. In April of '93 I transfered my union card to Reno, NV. I lived just out of Virginia City for a change of pace in life. I put up with that for 3 years and moved back to Alaska again. Nevada didn't have any trees or big bears and salmon to wrestle with. It also had poor career advancement opportunities for me.

After moving back, I started traveling around the villages in the bush running State and Federally funded commercial drywall, taping and painting projects, (known as Davis/Bacon projects), for a large painting & drywall contractor (until the owner of that company murderded his best friend). By then, I had enough money, contacts and experience to move on. In June of 2005 I launched Borealis Painting. Now I'm a commercial paint and drywall contractor. I bid Davis/Bacon projects in stratigic locations around the state. I've had steady business growth until this year because of the recession. However, we are not hit as hard as the lower 48 so I'll be just fine weathering the storm. Oh! for those who give a darn, I have met Sarah Palin shopping at Wal-Mart and at chamber of commerce meetings. She is just as regular and down to earth as most of us are.
I want you guys to contact me so I can catch up on who is doing what, who and so on. You can leave a post here and we can go from there. I plan on attending our 30th reunion next summer. I'll post a few photos as soon as I go through them all to get the best ones.
Thanks for checking up on me and stay in contact. Sincerely, Rick Gridley
