Rick's Story
Life
Can you believe I'm here in Louisana. From a Red neck to a coon-ass. I haven't got the acccent down yet; but am working on it. I went to college in El Paso and if you count that as a move, it took me 13 others to get down here. If dotted around Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, and spent 4 years overseas. All for work.I married one of our underclasswomen and after 7 years delay we had 2 boys. It's only proper for them to attend LSU after graduating High School from Erath High (correct spelling. Now single, I stay busy with tennis, motorcycling, biking and great local entertainment. Luck and AAHH no just luck has brough me to be called the Technical Director of a privately owned chemical company in Abbeville Louisana. I have figured out that times come to give back; but also continue learning, slowing down the pace and smell the Gumbo. Looking forward to seeing you all on Labor Day Weekend.
School
As a Senior at Tascosa, during Easter Jeff Thompson and I toured Texas looking for colleges. From Lubbock through El Paso around to College Station, Austin, Dallas, etc. I settled on UTEP. Believe it or not this border town had the newest and cleanest campus of all I saw. I went to the dorms for the first year knowing no one but meeting everyone. Thank goodness my SAT scores drop me into beginners classes bec...Expand for more
uase social life played a big role in my first year, At least that is what everone tells me. No don't remember much, oopppss.
College
What courses didn't I take at University of Texas El Paso (UTEP).College took me from single to Married. From a house with hippies to married housing on campus. Working for a professor partime and attending summer school made it feel like a full time job. Little did I know. I left with a degree in Geology and Chemistry in 1978 Using neither till later in life.
Workplace
There are always plus and minus's. Starting off as a electrical engineer out of college. This is strange with a chemistry and geology degree. I worked in the oilfield with Dresser Atlas. From Woodward,OK to Houston back to Oklahoma in Ardmore then in sales in Tulsa and back home to Amarillo for a brief stint. Finially I went the Chemistry route but still in the Oilfield with Nalco. Field work had the family living in Turpin Oklahoma. International called and overseas to Saudi Arabia for the arab connection. Back to Lake Jackson with a dissapointed assignment. Finally landing here in Abbeville LA. as Technical Director for a small chemical company. Yes, still in the oil field but in research and Laboratory work. I know it doesn't add up but revisitng a few places this is my 13th move since college.
