Rick's Story

Life I was a victim of Vigo County Indiana school consolidation in the early 1960s. My original school Prairie Creek closed after my fifth grade. Pimento for sixth. On to Honey Creek Jr. High for Seventh and eighth, then on to Honey Creek High. I left Honey Creek in the middle of my sophomore year and moved to Anthony Texas where I enjoyed two years of Great Friendships and good times at both Anthony HS. and Gadsden HS. Most of those who were Gadsden students came into my life through the Baptist Church in Anthony. I moved from Anthony in early 1968 to Texarkana. Graduated from Liberty Eyleau HS. where I was accepted by a few students who made my short stay at that school tolerable. I was not exactly pleased to have to leave Anthony. Started Texarkana Jr. College. Had little use for my peers and no respect for the professors. Enlisted in the USMC in early 1969 where I found a home and for the most part enjoyed my service. I spent most of my military time building precision weapons for the USMC Shooting Teams and Snipers. I also performed additional duties as a Marksmanship Instructor and as a Machinist. I had one Sea Duty tour with an Amphibious Brigade Headquarters as a Logistics Chief. I retired a Master Sergeant in 1991. Married in 1972 and still have my original bride Kay. We have three Daughters. The eldest Nichole is a former Marine MP who is married to a Marine Master Sergeant and has five children. Jessyca, Peyton,Zeilin, Elyzabeth and Meredyth. They are stationed at Camp LeJeune, NC. Staci is now married and has a son David, and a Daughter Ember. ng for a position in advertising. Kay (my bride) is a woman of many talents and varied work experience, she most recently left the of Real Estate sales and is busy playing the role of Granny. For the last 20 years I have been employed by a major federal law enforcement agency as their Chief Gunsmith with additional duties as a firearms instructor. My main hobby is finding scenic byways on which to ride my Road Glide. We are currently beginning to plan for a second retirement. We currently reside near the historic city of Fredericksburg Virginia. After being out of touch with most of my HS friends for over 43 years, I have been in touch with a few (mostly from Anthony) in the last couple of years. Visited with Dorothy (Munoz) Totten, and her sister in Cal. Spoke with Bill Robertson, Chuck Freeman, Dotti Campbell(Honey Creek as well as Anthony), Cheryl (Walker) Castela and Phyllis (Parsons) Aldert. In addition I have conversed via email or IM with Cheryl (Dolly LaBelle), David Valenzuela, and Connie (Clark) Arnold. A few years ago several of us got together in Va.Beach for a weekend long mini reunion. One of these days I will get over being such a cheap person and become a gold member and attempt to locate more old friends from Anthony, Texarkana, and Terre Haute. To the many who were my friends and treated me well, many thanks. To the few who were less than friendly. I have seen the world and it has long ago become irrelevent. To any who I was less than courteous, treated poorly, or who feels that I was a total jerk. I apologize, and wish you well, and hope that it has become unimportant to you also. To all, I would be pleased to hear your life story and anything you may know about other classmates.
