Rick Perkins:

CLASS OF 1969
Evergreen, CO

Rick's Story

I attended CSU and then did a lot of different things. I worked for the Colorado Outward Bound school , worked on a mapping crew in Alaska two seasons, 20 years of wildland firefighting, 27 years of Mountain Rescue and ran the fire and rescue programs for many years, finally retiring from the Sheriff's office after 32 years (in Colorado the Sheriff is legally responsible for forest fires and rescue). After retirement I worked for Sierra Trading Post selling outdoor gear for 21/2 years before fully retiring. Along the way I also sold Hardware, pumped gas, fixed mountain boots, sacked groceries and sold climbing gear as well as working as a hunting and climbing guide and climbing instructor. I had the privilege of serving on the Board of the National Association for Search and Rescue for 9 years and speaking in front of the ICSAR ( the congressional committee deali...Expand for more
ng with SAR) and working with the Colorado legislature on fire and rescue topics. I served as a state mission coordinator for the Colorado Search and Rescue Board for a short time and traveled as an overhead team participant to fires in many western states. I also found time to work with the Boy Scouts, Girl scouts and to coach soccer. I played recreation football in the Fort Collins city league (making the state tournament once) and wrestled in my last old timers match at 47 when I realized I was too old and cut back. All of my tomfoolery was only possible with Sherri my long suffering wife of 47 years raising our kids almost alone at times. Her patience is unlimited for a lazy disorganized ADD personality like me.. I have 2 children (in their 40's) 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandkids and at this point they are all I can keep up with. Life has been good.
