Rick's Story
What I've been up to: BA in Sci from Western. Married. Medical research for 7 years in London & Vancouver. At one point I was considered one of the top corticosteroid research techs in the country, which was when I knew I needed a change in direction. A lot of travelling in Europe, Mexico and the west coast. Living and working from Vancouver to Halifax and points in between. BFA from NSCAD. Divorced. In and out of science & arts for a further 4 years. Science to make the money; art to spend the money. More travelling. In & out of a long-term relationship. A daughter in Calgary whom I adore.Since 1983 I've designed/built/curated/directed museums and operations for...Expand for more
private industry and government. SInce 2000 I've worked for Department of National Defence as Director of the RCA Museum and, currently, Director of the Naval Museum of Halifax. Over the years a lot of volunteer board work with museums and arts organizations. Still travelling a bit but usually for work now. Still doing a bit of bad art. Starting to vaguely think about retiring but my financial advisor says think about other things. Watching from my balcony the fog finally lifting on the harbour.
I’m now retired and living in Mill Cove, NS. Gardening, carpentry, coast walking, a bit of (but not nearly enough) travelling and cruising Hwy 3 in my 1950 Studebaker.
