Rick's Story
Life
Bottom line: I've been happily married since 1982, I have a great family with two wonderful kids (one kid in college, wow, how did that happen!), great health and a beautiful home with a view of the ocean in Southern California. I just work too damn hard. But lucky to be living in the home of the free and the land of the brave. We should never take such things for granted... especially now.
School
I loved my time in Colorado Springs and Cheyenne Mountain High School. After moving from Michigan 3 days before 10th grade started and not knowing anyone or anything about Colorado, I have nothing but wonderful memories of many great friendships and experiences in those 3 years. I was very happy to get back to the school for the 30th reunion in 2003. So much has changed, but so much looks the same. Thanks always to the teachers, coaches, and administrators who put up with me, and who mentored me, especially Mr. Mandel.
College
Western Michigan University was the best thing that could have happened to me. I met the right people, had the right teachers who really got into teachin...Expand for more
g me, and I grew up. My roomates were certainly unique, but more importantly they were friends.
Workplace
After leaving the U.S. Air Force to theoretically spend less time on the road (and in the air) and more time with my family, I unfortunately got a job which requires a lot of travel and a lot more time in the air it seems in much slower aircraft than the F-15 I flew in the Air Force. Fortunately, I do have more control over when I'm gone. So I don't miss as many important events as I used to. I currently work for Alcoa Fastening Systems, a division of Alcoa, where I am Senior Vice President of Global Aerospace Customers and Marketing. We employ about 6000 people around the world and have significant variety and numbers of products on almost everything that flys. Our customers include Boeing, Airbus, Bombardier, Embraer, Lockheed, Sikorsky, Pratt, GE, etc. I mangage a Customers and Marketing organization that is spread all over the world, but I love working with and motivating a great team; figuring out better ways of doing things; and negotiating significant long term relationships.
