Rick's Story
Hello, World of Arroyo Misfits,
I lost the my best friend, cohort, pardner in crime and wife, Lisa, of over 45 years in Jan. 2022 to ovarian cancer.
Please forgive the Lisa centric photos I have posted. After the shutter was released, this is what I saw. From the view finder to reality, I lived and loved this Dream of a Woman for 45 happy years..
Lisa worked as a Optical Technologist at an eye surgeon's office in Beverly Hills.
Me? Boeing, McDonnell Douglas in Engineering Test, wind tunnel models mostly. I graduated from the Laser Electro-optical program at Pasadena City College. This was before cd discs and grocery store scanners. I built lasers from scratch. I also took holography during that time, making many holograms, on glass slides, lasers, optical tables, and development of those slides. Geometric and Diffusion Optics. All my teachers were Cal Tech Professors.
Lisa always said that I saw her. through beer goggles and my perception tainted by love.
That’s Mr Beer Goggles to you.
Hello and Goodby for now.,

. My wife Lisa earned her baccalaureate degree at 19. Lisa was planning on becoming a teacher but after being assigned to teach in east L.A. she left that job because of difficulties. Afterwards she went on to work for an eye surgeon. When the digital age came around, the surgeon could not get anyone, anywhere to d...Expand for more
evelop the film for their optical cameras. Lisa knew how to push process, film and took on the job herself..Lisa and I learned that skill in the 4 semesters of photography taken at Pasadena City College. We did most everything together for 45 years. For cataract surgery, the industry at the time had to calculate the diopter rating of the artificial lens implant and this was performed by pencil and paper. This was at the time of TRS 80 and commodore computers. Lisa wrote a program that calculated the diopter rating of the implants for every 1/2 diopter rating for all the manufactures of interocular implants based on the length of the eye and the radius of curvature of the back of the eye and for each manufacturers own formulas.
All printed out for the surgeon to select the one to use. She worked in Beverly Hills for one of the renowned eye surgeons in the world. She was no slouch. Her father was a math teacher and she was brilliant in math not to mention almost total recall. Do not perceive this woman based on the fun and beautiful photographs of her. She was brilliant, Lisa was a kind, intelligent, caring person who DISRESPECTED no one (you know who you are). Lisa Was loved by all. She was an avid bicyclist, doing dozens of 100 mile rides. Simply amazing woman. Lisa rode her bicycle until she could no more. Lisa, I will love you forever.
