Rick's Story

Life I guess I've been pretty fortunate. I have a family that loves me, and helped support me all the way through many years of college. I have always wanted to stay and live in Arizona, and I have a terrific job that has allowed me to see and do more than I ever thought I could by this age. I've been married only three years, waiting until my 30's to find the person who would be my dream come true, and I finally did. Sandra is a joy to be with, and two nights ago (8/18/04) she told me she is expecting our first child. I have always been the kind of person who believes that everyone is filled with limitless potential, and although I feel good about having used some of that potential, I am realizing that the most important role in the world, the one that defines you more than any other, is the one I'm about to embark on for the first time -- parent. Most of you have probably found this out already, but I haven't experienced it until now. Hopefully, you all are finding your joy, fulfilling your dreams, having only enough pain to grow on, and staying connected to your roots. Much love to you all. School After high school, headed south to Tucson for four years and got my degree in (inhale) molecular and cellular biology (exhale). It was a great experience, my first time on my own. I grew up more there than any other time in my life. Most of the people I still stay in contact with are friends from there. I am still surprised every week by how well some of those clowns turned out. I graduated U of A and went to dental school at the Univer...Expand for more
sity of Colorado for the next four years, until 1994. An intense four years of 16 hour per day, 12 months per year study to learn how to be a technician, an artist, a psychologist, and a business owner all rolled into one. I really liked Denver a lot, and would have stayed there if I wasn't looking forward to finally returning to Phoenix so much. I did a year post-doc in Kansas City training in advanced dentistry, so I could do the kind of complex cosmetic and rehabilitative treatment I wanted to be able to do later. So I returned home from school to work as a dentist and to discover that my education began after I graduated, and difficultly but thankfully, never really will stop. Workplace After college ended, I had an education but not much else. I came back to Phoenix and found work as an associate in an HMO dental practice while I searched out a location for my own office, and learned some management and business skills. After about two years, I couldn't take the HMO mentality anymore, and opened a private practice built on the notions of customer service, clinical excellence, and constant education. It has done very well in the Arrowhead area for seven years, and at this writing, I am moving up to a new practice, an advanced reconstructive and cosmetic private practice in the Desert Ridge area of Phoenix, to be open in a few months. I am really excited about this new opportunity, for myself, to continue to develop as a doctor and cosmetic artist , and for a whole new group of patients, whose lives I can hopefully make much more joyful.
