Rick's Story
School
I started out at Holy Child School in Philadelphia (never went to Kindergarten). In 8th grade, I moved to Malvern, PA, and finished 8th grade at St. Patrick's in Malvern, less than half a mile from home.
I started high school at Great Valley High School near Malvern. I did have some good courses there, especially Music Theory and German. I was in the Photography Club and the German Club while I was there. I enjoyed developing pictures, and had a little darkroom set-up in my bedroom for a while (before I went all-digital). But I didn't like GV, and I was fascinated by all the gadgets I saw at Northern Chester County Technical School in Phoenixville, and I wen there for 11th and 12th grade. I took Chemical Technology. That was the smallest shop at the school (probably because it was the hardest). I liked having the 'run of...Expand for more
the lab' and setting up and running my own experiments, even though I was never as good at lab work as I was at bookwork and the theoretical part of it. My favorite project was esters in 12th grade (making smells).
I went to Christendom College for one year; it's first year (1977). The History courses at that school were outstanding. The Thomistic philosophy classes were also great.
I went to a seminary in Italy, also for one year, where I studied at the University of St. Thomas (Angelicum) in Rome. It was challenging having all the classes in Italian (which I never completely mastered). But I learned a lot there, and it was very valuable.
After that, I went to West Chester University in West Chester, PA. I started out taking Hebrew and Greek. Later, I enrolled in a major, and got my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.
