Rick's Story

After graduation from Eisenhower, I went on to Cal Baptist University in Riverside. I met & started dating Karen there and we were married in 1971. After college, I worked several years as a social worker at a juvenile detention facility. I left in 1974 as I was hired by the Newport Beach Police Department. During my 35 years with Newport, I worked as a reserve police officer, a patrol officer, a motorcycle officer, a sexual assault detective, a Swat team squad leader and for almost half of my career, as a helicopter pilot. ch at a store in Brea. In July of 2014, we moved to a small town just south of Yosemite. We are both enjoying retirement and are spending a lot of time with our favorite mutual hobby - traveling. Karen & I are continuing our travels having been to Europe for 6 weeks, 3 weeks in the Galapagos Islands plus smaller trips around the U.S. I've also done something that I would never do again! I started a (part time!) job as a tour guide in Yosemite National Park. I work for a hotel located just outside the south entrance to the park. It's generally just 2 days a week, but I am really enjoying it as Yosemite has always been one of my favorite places.
