Rickey's Story

Apr 2018 How to cover 50 years of adventure, hmmmm? After graduation I went to Marquette U for a year and a little and decided I should find better things to do, so I joined the Navy and headed off to San Diego. Spent a few years in CA and then to ID where I met my first wife. We came across country ending up in CT where we spent about 20 yrs in the Navy as the Chief Electrician operating the Nuclear plant on 5 different submarines. Could tell ya all about it, but then I would have to kill ya. lol Retired from the service in 1992 and found a job in the Nuclear power industry as a contractor for the next 22 years. Our two girls finished education here in AL and they have stayed here too. My second wife(and last) also has three girls, and we together have a total of 14 grandkids(help!). We were married in se MI and that is when we started to move around quite a bit. We maintained our home in AL but lived in MI, TN, FL at multiple locations. We traveled to do the sightseeing thing and for fun. We also traveled alot while being Softball umpires at numerous levels too. So it seems we have the travel bug. In 2014 I was working and they said they were laying me off because they were running out of money and my response was Thank You! Caused three heart attacks for those folks. Anyway, we moved home and a month later bought an RV, duh! So, we have been trying to fill in the map on the back of it. Have done all but the far West. Annually we have been going up to Marquette MI where my f...Expand for more
olks moved when the kids all left. Mom passed from ALS a few years ago but Dad is still kicking at 92. So, we have been going thru Milw and staying at State Fair park so we can visit and watch all the changes. Such a joy to see the old school is still standing and a lot of the area is timeless. 50 years...OMG! Really looking forward to the reunion and catching up. Down here the adventure continues. When football (ROLL TIDE!) season arrives there are a lot of displaced Packer fans here. It is WI and MI south here. Anybody coming thru just gives us a shout, we're in the phone book. LOL These days I spend a lot of time doing "projects/chores" I saved for retirement. And as much time as I can listening to the sixties on 6 with Sirius radio. What a great memory machine! Post reunion notes. We had a great time with all of y’all who attended the various events! My sincere apologies for not remembering your names right away and having to grab you and look at your name tags. We truly wish the weekend would not have ended so soon. Your stories that I was able to share were great but I wish I could have heard from all of you! Thanks again to the committee for their efforts and the biggest thanks to all who made the effort to just show up! We extend an offer to anyone who happens to be traveling nearby (we are just off I65) to stop on by for some southern hospitality and rest. Northern Alabama is our home and will be for a long time. That’s it for now, except ROLL TIDE! Rick and Sabrina
