Rita's Story

Life December 21, 2007 Update: Firstly, let me wish you all a very Happy Holiday Season! Scott and I are still on the Camm family farm together and doing very well. I am working for Massie Insurance Agency, Inc. (a Nationwide agency) in the quaint town of Amherst, Virginia. I have gone from working part time to full time as support staff, and I will soon be taking the exam for my agent's license sometime this winter. I have learned a lot and am enjoying my job very much. I have finally, at the suggestion of Ray Montalvo at our last mini dinner reunion, and have completed a course in Autocad I (computer aided drafting), and done quite well at it. I found it to be extremely chanllenging and very much fun. My goal is to eventually continue my studies by taking Autocad II, then Architectural Autocad I and II. Hopefully, at the very least, I would eventually love to design a house, taking into consideration the needs of all of us baby boomers, with our special needs, to make it not only esthically pleasing and very user friendly as we aproach our senior years. I had the great opportunity to spend the week of Thanksgiving with Donna Zebe and her mother, Dorothy, in Jacksonville, FL, where Donna moved to, bought a nice house and moved her wonderful mother in with her. It was a very sweet, low-key, week, as I had not seen Dorothy for many years. Dorothy, during my high ...Expand for more
school years, was so much fun to be with on those numerous occasions I had the privilege of spending time at the Zebe house. I am so happy that Donna is now in Florida, as my sister, Diane Sloan Bradley (MRHS Class of '70), has lived in Tampa for many years, and my in-laws are in Tarpon Springs, FL. So, whenever I go on a vacation, I always go to Florida, since the people I love most are all there. It makes for a very special time, indeed. Last year, Donna and Robin Steckhahn and I spent a few days together in the St. Pete/Tampa area and attended my sister's daughter's wedding. We had a great time. I am still in regular contact with Robin, who lives in Menlo ParK, CA. I went to visit her a couple of years ago and we had a hilariously good time. My husband, Scott, keeps very busy with the upkeep of St. Moor Farm, which is approximately 600 acres. We so enjoy being in the midst of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains with 300-year-old, massive, oak trees, not to mention the various types of wild life, some of which we feed. We have a family of red foxes, many deer, many bothersome raccoons, a few bobcats, a couple of outdoor cats, not to mention a bear or two. In closing, I would like to say how much I have enjoyed all of our reunions, mini or otherwise. I sincerely hope that we are able to all get together again very soon. The best to all of you!
