Rita's Story
Life
I can't believe how wonderful my life has been! I have been married for 17 years, and live on White Lake. We have all the associated "toys" that go with lake living and plan to never move again (unless we win the lotto!) I worked for Channel 7 for 23 years, and am "retired" from that job. I also worked for WDIV (Channel 4) and WWJ/WKBD doing news, sports and investigative journalism. I also was the editor for the "LockerRoom" sports show that ran on WDIV in 2000-2001. I am an EMMY award (as well as Telly, AXIEM and many other awards) winning cameraman and editor, and have traveled all over the world covering various news assignments for the major networks, CNN and Fox News. I went to New York to cover the World Trade Center attack, and have also worked on everything from documentaries to feature films. I am one of very few camerawomen who shoot for the NFL and the NHL. (Still trying to break into the NBA, and shooting baseball is boring!) I have produced, directed, shot (with a camera) and edited quite a few local programs, and at Channel 7 they called me the "Bionic Woman" because I could turn around (edit) a news package regularly under deadline (under 15 minutes!) Now I own/run my own video production company! I am currently (September 2004) working on a couple of kids' programs, I have an idea for ...Expand for more
a reality show (NO, NOT ANOTHER REALITY SHOW) that I am developing, and I also work for a local advertising agency doing commercials and video presentations. I also have a feature film in the works, and I am called on often to go out on news assignments! When I'm not working, my husband Whitey (David) and I spend time out on our boat or our jet skis. I am a total nut on my jet ski, and regularly get thrown off. (No falls...no balls!) I ski in the winter, and used to race in my 20s. Two winters ago I did an extreme snowboarding show for Fox Sports Net and I got to ski all over Breckenridge (Colorado) and in the back country of the mountains with a group of professional and Olympic-medal-winning snowboarders! Not bad for an "old broad" of 45! I also developed my exclusive "helmet-cam" by strapping a small weatherproof camera to a bike helmet, and it gave me some of the coolest video I've ever seen! My life philosophy is to always make sure I'm having fun, because life can be cut short in an instant! (I guess that comes from all the "bad" news stories I've covered.) I am still as wild and crazy as ever, and I hope to never retire from making TV and movies because that's my passion! Would love to hear from anyone and everyone from Holy Redeemer still in the area!!! Hey...is Mr. Shirkey still teaching Biology??
