Rob's Story
Life
My wife, Jennifer (Wheeler) and I were married on May 29, 1993, while still in college in Bozeman, Montana. Our first daughter, Shae, was born in 1996, and our second daughter, Megg, was born in 1998. We have a dog, a cat, a gecko, and a hamster.
We bought a great house in October of 2004, a large ranch on an acre, that backs up to a nice pond. The kids and I love to fish, and we spend a few weeks every summer in Hayward Wisconsin fishing, boating, and relaxing.
Jen is a silent part owner of a nail salon, and is working at a computer consulting business.
School
I grew up in Red Lodge, Montana until I was a freshman in high school, when I moved to Columbia Falls for my sophomore and junior years. Our house burned to the ground over Christmas break, prompting a move to Bozeman, where I graduated high school in 1988.
College
After graduating high school, I attended Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana. I started out with the declared major of Environmental Microbiology, switched to Biology Teaching, then to Secondary Ed. with a Broadfield Science option. I found my niche, however, and abandoned the sciences to go on to earn a BA de...Expand for more
gree in English teaching, a BA degree in English Literature, and a K-12 Reading minor.
Since my undergrad years, I've gone on to earn a Master's in Education - Curriculum and Instruction from North Central College, a private college in Naperville, Illinois. I've since acquired 54 credits beyond the Master's degree from various colleges.
Workplace
After graduating from MSU in 1994, I got a job in Roberts, Montana, where I taught reading and English to grades 5-12. Roberts is a small ranching community in southwest Montana. I loved the staff and students at Roberts, and remember them fondly, but it became too financially difficult to continue working there for the pay they offered. We moved our family to Oswego, Illinois in the early summer of 1998, three weeks after my second daughter was born.
I've been teaching 6th grade at Lincoln Junior High School in Naperville, Illinois since then. Naperville is a tremendous district, touted as one of the best districts in the nation. I currently teach 6th grade langauge arts and social science, am a team leader, newspaper and literary magazine sponsor, and golf, volleyball, and laser tag intramural sponsor.
