My new friend in Chengdu. The Chinese liked taking our pictures.
Gansu province scene. The Mountain was ~3K high. We called the region W. Va. on steroids. Third half (it seemed) of the 47 hour train from Lhasa to Chengdu, Sichuan.
Yaks in a typical train scene on the plateau. Families live in large tents.
View from the train through northern Tibet & Qinghai provinces. We topped out at over 16K feet - highest train in the world.
Our Lhasa guide with his son & wife.
Street-side prayer wheels
And another Lhasa street. The language at the top is Tibetan. Many signs were also in English.
View from the Portala Palace in Lhasa.
Another street scene
Portala Palace, home of the Dalai Llama. Lhasa's at 11,000 feet, the palace is up another 1K. we were breathing hard when we reached the top.
Common sight: solar powered prayer wheel with a suction cup for your windshield. Saw these in Chengdu & Kunming, too.
