Rob's Story
Life
I married Joylynn Rollins from Mountain View High School in 1990. We met at BYU after I returned from a mission to Tokyo, Japan. We have four children ranging in age from 14 to 6 (3 girls, one boy). We currently live in West Jordan where I am a member of the City Council serving a 4 year term. I never thought of getting involved in politics, but I find myself heavily involved now as a party precinct chair, county delegate, former state delegate, and other local and county governmental issues. It is a wild ride! I ended up working in computers and have been pursuing a Masters degree in management recently to open up further employment opportunities - almost half-way there. Looking forward to seeing how we all have changed over 20 years in 2006.
College
I attended Brigham Youn University for one year in 1987 before leaving for an LDS mission to Tokyo, Japan for two years. I returned and managed to squeek out a bachelor's degree in Family Science in 1995. I'm glad I have the sheepskin since so many jobs these days require a minimum of a bachelor's to be considered. I stayed on campus for my first year in Helaman Halls the Glenwood apartments when I returned. This is where I met my future wife, Joylynn Rollins, from Orem by way of Mountainview Hig...Expand for more
h School. She was way smarter and a better student than me and this is still the only question I have about her intelligence. After marriage, I did the work/school thing - lengthening the process until fall of 1995. Haven't done a thing professionally with my degree since then, but it was worth it in the end.
Workplace
I have been working for the LDS Church for the past 6 years. Before that, I worked for 5 years at the Utah State Board of Regents doing computer network support and web development. So, I guess you could say that I have done both church and state. I worked for WordPerfect Corporation in the early years of college and also did some software support for two small software companies that gave me valuable experience in the business world. Computers are great, but the problem is that they often do exactly what you tell them to do. The complexity is something I often find challenging, but enjoy looking into other challenges as well which is why I am looking to complete a master's program and see if I can move into the less technical and more managerial kind of jobs that are part of the decision making process. Either way, my career has been good for me and we feel very grateful to be able to live the American dream to the extent that we are.
