Robert's Story

Workplace I retired from Hewlett Packard Enterprise in February, 2020 after being a Solutions Consultant for 38 years! I worked for Hewlett Packard Enterprise as a Technical Solutions Consultant providing fee based services for our top tier customers. I specialize in system and application performance tuning and capacity planning. There is a fair amount of travel with this job but it keeps it interesting and allows me to visit many different places and friends, occasionally including old classmates. My career with HPE started with Tandem Computers who created the worlds only NonStop Fault Tolerant high availability computers. Tandem merged with Compaq Computers, then Compaq merged with HP, then HPE was spun off for all commercial products . I continued to work on the NonStop computer systems which are HPEs top of the line enterprise servers. If you buy anything with a credit card, bank at any of the top 25 banks in the world or trade on any stock exchange in the world, there's an 85-95% chance you are using an HPE NonStop computer. And I probably worked on it! It has been a cha...Expand for more
llenging and fascinating career. I have had the privilege to meet, work with and learn from many extremely bright people, several who have become my good friends. These people are like family to me. We all had the privilege to work for a most unique company at Tandem Computers, a company who had amazing computers and an even more amazing culture. Things like a 6 week sabbatical every four years in addition to normal vacation and "Beer Bust" every Friday from 4-6. On one of these sabbaticals I combined my vacation and took off 9 weeks. My wife and I traveled cross country for five of those weeks and saw many of the countries most notable parks and attractions. The rejuvenation a sabbatical brings is surpassed by nothing. I hope to continue learning and growing in this field until retirement. This constantly changing and rapidly growing field is hard to keep up with, but the rewards and stimulation it provides should keep my mind active and healthy. Nonetheless, I look forward to retirement and spending it traveling and doing many more inspiring things with my best friend, my wife.
