Robert's Story
Life
After graduation I entered the Army and was with the llth A/B Division, returned home and entered Modesto JC. Graduated June 1950 and was admitted to third class of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. I was the first Junior College only student to be admitted. Graduated in 1954, spent fifty years in practice and teaching. Married Dorothy Roller on September 18, 1954. We have three sons and three extraordinary daughters-in-law and four grand children. We have been fortunate to travel over a good part of the world as a veterinarian, spent almost four months in Romania during Sept-Dec 2003. My wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in April 2002. We used home nurses and taking care of her until July 2005. I was offered a part time job teaching a graduate course at the U of Arkansas, we came to Fayetteville in July. Shortly after arriving here my wife was admitted to the hospital, she was not able to return home. Alzheimer's is a cruel dise...Expand for more
ase, especially punishing to grand children. My job is still fun and stimulating, especially in view of what has happened with our personal life. I enjoy being a veterinarian, it is my hobby and will continue to practice it as long as some one want my service. I feel fortunate to have had the wife I had, the children that resulted and a career that is still exciting to look forward to getting up in the morning and going to work. I would love to hear from anyone in the era I was at Oakdale HS, overall felt we got a decent education, and I certainly did not work at that as hard as I could and should have. Dottie died on 20 March 08, she was buried in Woodland, CA. In spite of knowing for some time what was going to happen I was not prepared when it actually happened. Dottie spent her last 4 weeks in the Circle of Life Hospice, they were wonderful, will never be able to thank them enough for the extraordinary care they provided. They are wonderful.
