Robert's Story
Life
What concerns me the most is that a lot of us have joined this great web site and no one seems to talk to anyone. When are we going to set aside our differences and start to talk to one another. Who really cares if one person was more popular than another person. Nothing would make me happier than to hear from someone I didn't get a chance to really know, to hear how that person is doing in life. High School was okay for me, but I know that I was one of those people that was on the fringe. I think that if anyone takes the time to read about me, they will see that I'm a different person than the one I was in High School. I encourage you to drop me a line and let me know how you are doing.
School
Well, this should be interesting (maybe not). I guess I could say I was one of those fringe people. I had friends, but I can't say that I belonged to one group or another. I knew people who were "Jocks", people who others labled as the "Stoners" or "Metal Heads", people that others said were "Geeks", and people who just wanted to get through High School and get on with their life. I got picked on a lot, or so it seemed at the time. By the time we were seniors, a lot of that nonsense stopped, maybe because we all started to un...Expand for more
derstand that all that stuff wasn't really worth it.
I think that a lot of my classmates were surprised that I decided to join the military after graduating. I knew that I wasn't ready to go to school, and I certainly didn't have the money or the grades to get into a really good school (something that I kind of regret, but things happen for a reason).
I can look back on my school years with some humor now, and often wonder how everyone is doing in their lives.
Military
Wow! It's hard to believe that I've been doing this since 1988. I have had a chance to go to a lot of interesting places since I've been in. All of them have been pretty much up to me if I've wanted to go or not. I had a choice of going or not going to Desert Storm and I decided to go. I've been to Spain, Alaska, Panama, Germany, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and just about up and down the state of California.
Military service isn't for everyone, and there have been times that I wondered why I still wear a uniform. It certainly hasn't been easy to find a relationship, since you are required to be away from your family a lot. But I think that serving my country is very important. I'll know when it's time to hang the uniform up for good and find a life outside of it.
