Life Up throught 1976 I worked with Uncle Pat McGrail in the metal fabricating business in Parkesburg. I moved to California and went back to college. In 1980 I graduated from U.C.Berkeley with a dual major in metallurgical and mechanical engineering. Subsequently, I traveled quite a bit overseeing safety-related upgrades to nuclear power plants all over the U.S., Europe, and Asia. In 1984 I became self-employed as a consulting engineer and later became licensed as a metallurgical engineer in California. I feel fortunate in having the opportunity to have worked in various challenging fields including nuclear, aerospace, biomedical and more recently forensic engineering (which is mostly what I do now). Forensic engineering involves "making the broken bits tell the story" when there are accidents or failures that cause significan economic loss, injury, or loss of life.
