Robert's Story

I am a Retired Fireman after 25 + years of service... Just looking for some friends and some laughs! My Life in a Nut Shell!(more truth in the nut than the shell than you think.) I was born in Buffalo New York. Elvis and I share the same Birthday, he is a little older but who's counting. My Parents were the best you could ever hope to be blessed with! My Mother was always there when we needed her. Dad was a Pharmacist and owned his own store. He had the "uncanny" ability to work 16 to 18 hours a day, but still was there when you needed him. I grew up in the isles of a drug store. That is another story. I have 2 older sisters and a brother. We all grew up happy and safe. We have 150 acres with 2 cabins on it with a fishing pond and a swimming pond both of which were SPRING FED! BRRRRRRRR! But was really refreshing on a hot humid day. We spent most or at least a lot of our summers out there. "The good old days of summer!" We fished all summer, and camped out under the Pine Trees. We also planted around 5 gazillion Christmas trees ( at least it seemed that many ) and pruned them every summer. We were gonna sell em at Christmas time and make some money! Well after 8 or 9 years of every summer pruning of all the trees. Dad, one day called a "Tree Broker" ( the guy who wholesales the trees ) Well, Dad asked this man. "I have some Christmas Trees for sale! How much will you give me for each tree?" The Broker said. "I'll give you 25 cents a tree!" Dad's next sentence said it all on how he lived. "This land and all these trees have just turned into a Game Preserve!" So we now have a Game Preserve and my Brother is the caretaker of that land. If I can be 1/8th the man my Dad was, I would be a complete success! In the Fall of 1971, I moved out to Utah, where I went to College for a year and then Left on a Church Mission for two years to England. When I came back home I went to work fighting fire and saving property, and the next thing ya know, 39 years have passed now and I didn't even notice! If Ya want some more facts about, Just Ask! I LOVE making New Friends! My Life, like my classmates profile, is starting all over again from the beginning! After High School, I drove out to Utah where I have been for the past 39 years! My Life has taken many turns and all of which, I have grown in many ways from the lessons learned! I have now retired and have moved on to new adventures and challenges! As...Expand for more
k me for a Great Recipe, and I will send it to you! I love to cook! I am a Model Railroader! I love to Landscape and do Gardening. I have spent my Life donating to the Red Cross and have over 33 gallons of Blood and several units of Platelets given so far! I have always enjoyed serving my Fellow Man! If You would like to know more about my Life and History, Just please ask, and I will write it down! This is how I started my Fire Service Career... I started my "Fire Service" career at about 10 or 12 years old... The siren would go off in the middle of the town, and I would run about 4 or 5 blocks up to the Fire Station, where I would read the location of the Fire off the Chalk Board, and then would run to that location, watch them put the fire out, and then I would help them gather up the hose and others items that were used... put them on the truck, they, ( the Firemen ) would drive back to the station, as I would have to run back... there i would help wash all the equipment and get the trucks ready for the next incident. Well, after a few years, I was doing just that... all of the firemen would always ask me where such and such would go on the trucks... Oh! That goes in the left compartment on the right side... I knew more then most of the firemen... LOL! One day the Chief came over to me and asked me to pick up and throw the bucket of water on the grass and on the flowers... I did, and then asked him why he wanted me to do that? He asked me to sign a piece of paper... He saw the bewilderment in my eyes... He said... " Congradulations! You are our newest member of the Fire Department! " He also said... " Now You can RIDE in the trucks... ! " Wow! I was a real Fireman! That was the beginning of my Fire Career! That also was my Senior Year in high school... So I was a Fireman and a Senior! It was Cool! That is how I started my Fire Service, I moved out to Utah for some College, and also I left for two years to serve a Mission to England for my Church! I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I am sure you have heard of the "Mormons"! I was able to find work with Hercules Inc. I was on their Fire Department. They manufactured the Submarine Missles and other rocket motors.. I "played" with Nitro Glycerine (Sp?) I love serving and helping others... The pay was important, but not as important and satisfying as the " Thank You's and Smile's! "
