Robert's Story

Life Married Esther Guild August 6, 1965 and had two sons, Robert John Crandall, Jr. (better known as RJ) and Matthew Guild Crandall (Matt). RJ is married to Edie Southwick and is a Chiropractor in Beatrice, NE and has four children (so we have - you guessed it four grandchildren - Olivia, Will, Cole and Bennett. Matt married Kathy Rohr and works for Lodgenet in Sioux Falls, SD and has three children ( so we now have seven grandchildren - Matt and Kat's kids are Trevyn, Payton and Jackson.) Esther and I were divorced August 7, 1989 (yes 24 years and one day.) I remarried May 19, 1990 to Lois M. Dvirnak. Lois and I are still enjoying feeling like newly weds and will be married 15 years May 19, 2005. In my work as a professional fundraiser I have enjoyed being involved with the Association of Professional Fundraisers - AFP (formerly NSFRE). I have served as an officer in every local chapter but one and just completed serving as the Vice President of Fundraising for the International AFP Foundation where I served two three year terms on the board. Earlier in the 80's I served 5 years on the NSFRE Board as well. Currently, I am involved with our local AFP NE Indiana Chapter meeting in Fort Wayne, IN. I have most enjoyed my years of serving Christ and working in the local churches where I have been a member. In my work with the American Baptist Churches I travled to India, Thailand, Japan, and Mexico doing fundraising training and preaching in all of these locations. As a member of AFP I have been priviledged to speak in India, Jordan, Mexico, Brazil and Puerto Rico as a speaker and presenter on fundraising. In Brazil I was the featured speaker at their very first nationwide fundraising conference for the relgious groups of Brazil. they have invited me back every year since and that has been a great experience for myself and Lois. We have seen enough of the world that when we actually retire - if we ever really do - that we think staying at home is not a bad idea. I have been in every state but two - South Carolina and Alaska. Maybe there is something about having two letter "a's" in the states name? Like most Americans I dream of writing a book about all the wisdom I have gained through the yeras - and then I am quickly reminded that thinking that thought doesn't make it true or make it happen! College Attended Sioux Falls College 1963-68 - now University of Sioux Falls and earned a B.A. with a double major in History and Psychology with a minor in German. Attended the College of St. Thomas 1970-71 - now University of St. Thomas and earned an M.A.T. (Master of Arts in Teaching) Attended Iowa State University 1979 - 1982 (part-time) earning my Principal's Certification and all byt one class toward's the Superintendent's Certification.
