I joined the Air Force after high school, learned electronics and worked on flight simulators. Figured out I hated authority and took an early out after 3 1/2 years. I worked for Abington Hospital in the IT dept for 10 years and let them pay for my college degree. During that 10 years I got married, had two beautiful daughters and bought two houses, all while working full time and going to school at night. I started my degree program in electrical engineering but switched to computer science and management information systems. After I graduated I left the hospital and went into IT consulting, and traveled all over the country for the next ten years. I rose quickly through the ranks and became VP Professional Services in 1999. The owners of my small entrepreneurial company then sold out to a major healthcare IT firm.
