Robert's Story

My apologies to all of you who knew me as an awkward teenager growing up in the Midwest. Hopefully, I've matured in these past 40 years. In August (2011) my wife Ruth and I celebrated 36 years together. We live in a sheltered part of Washington State, nestled not only between the Olympic Mountains and Mount Rainer, (Mt. Reindeer according to my oldest boy when he was young) but also between the Capital City of Olympia and Tacoma. We are about 20 minutes/miles from either of them. Joint Base Fort Lewis (Army) and McCord AFB form an isolating corridor from the big city. We are actually 'rural'. We live on a five acre 'farm' with a beautiful black dog named Black Pearl, several cats (including Soko - a 'gift' from son Joseph when he moved to Hawaii., Wiskers, whom we raised from kittenhood (sister disappeared). striped kitty (destined for a farmer's barn next week), and Fluffy/Silkie who is our newest arrival. One Chicken, a couple of HUGE Goldfish. Now, this has really been a real farm at times - raising a multitude of Rabbits for the meat market, some black and white - Holstein steers, couple of porkers, horses, fryers, layers, and over 35 milking goats at one time. We had some snow last week - for about two days. Right at this moment - it is below freezing (30* F) Update 10/2012 We now have about 15 laying hens and three dairy goats. Soko is being a hermit. Goldfish is over 8 " long. lost the smaller one. Desiree (Joe's wife) and three gandkids moved back from HI. He is being transfered to TX. They are living in Tenino, WA Tim is in Lynnwood with Shannon (wife) and Emberly (1) Jon (27) is here at home. I've worked for Wally World for the past 10 years. Maintenance/Produce Associate. My wife Ruth is an all-around handyperson. She was her father's oldest helper in construction among a family of 5 girls. I met her when she was in college at the age of 17. Married her when she was 19. She has an Associates in Biblical Studies and a diploma from the Institute of Children's Literature. She has published a few short stories and developed a CD for the WA Dept. of Fosestry for teaching ecology to children with teacher's resources. She writes poetry, songs, and stories. For about 10 yrs. she had The Country Toys...Expand for more
hop where she manufactured toys and household items out of wood. Selling at local Bazaars. She has several online businesses, and also maintains a few small store floors (Freedom Cleaning) that I cleaned before starting at Walmart. She is out in the sun cleaning rocks that we tumbled for the Puallup Valley Gem and Mineral Club - for the WA Fair. Last Thur. we went collecting with some friends for pseudo-coprylite (false Dino-dung) and agates - mostly Carnelian. Also found some nice petrified wood. We both enjoy rockhounding and have a nice extensive collection from years of collecting. Our latest find was a 'double hamburger' - a pectin shell (like at the Shell station) that was a beautiful complete pair. We collected over 500 lbs. of Geodes from OR which we are cutting on our 12" slab saw. We also have a 12lb. tumbler (borowed a three gang unit for the fair), 7" trim saw, rock drill, and a dry sander for Geodes. We are both active in church. I was more active in the past with playing my Cello. I may go back to it - but Arthritis has caused some problems. Been Diabetic for about 20 years. I like to write - may not be the best at English or spelling - but enjoy writing. Associate with Honors from COD. Also Theta Beta Kappa NHS, Bachelors of Science - Double Major in Bible, Minor in Religious Education Multnomah University, A Diploma from Good Shepherd Ministries, Diploma from Multnomah Sch. of the Bible, Associate in Biblical Studies from Vision International, Ramona, CA. My other hobbies besides rocks and Bible Studies, are stamps (Worldwide but specializing in US and Canada), and HO and N Gauge Trains. These have been put on hold until I 'retire' in a few years. The room is in use for storage of all the boys stuff and my wife's quilt materials etc. She makes quilts for the homeless and nursing home/assisted living residents, etc.with her mother and sisters and others. Jesus Loves You, God Bless Shalom! Robert Update 4/2012 All three goats are Prego. Have 7 laying hens. sold the rest. Planted most of the Garden already and working on the orchard. Ruth picked up some rocks yesterday at a house in Seattle. Some nice agate, banded obsidian, carnelian, and petrified wood. Working in Produce at Walmart.
