Robert's Story

Been there, done that!!! Now it's time to start all over again. After graduating from Independence in 1984, I went to Evergreen Valley College. I was living the typical student life. I was going to school, dating women (one of which would later become my wife) and working as a Park Ranger. I did this for 3-years, until I graduated in 1987 with an AA degree. In 1987, I transferred to San Jose State. My life had not changed much. I was now working full-time as a Deputy Sheriff, dating, and going to school. In 1991, I graduated from SJSU with a BS in Aviation. Shortly after graduation, my life had changed significantly. I ended up marrying a gal I had previously dated at Evergreen and I joined the Army. My time in the Army was exciting to the say the least. I missed Desert Storm, but I ended up becoming an Officer (and a Gentleman) and Aviator. I flew the OH-58A/C and UH-1H helicopters. I was stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina; Fort Rucker, Alabama; and Fort Carson, Colorado. By 1996, I had fulfilled my military obligation and I started working at San Jose Int'l Airport (SJC) in Airport Management. Over the next 11-years, I lived the ...Expand for more
typical American life. I worked full-time, started several businesses, married, had 2 children and lived in a very nice part of Morgan Hill. But, towards the end of 2007, things were to change. It's now April 2013, I am single, working in the ER of a local hospital and returned back to school to get a degree in Nursing. I just graduated the LVN-section of the program and will start the RN portion in September 2014. By May of 2015, I will be a Registered Nurse and we'll see where that takes me. Right now, I am very happy where I am at in life. While it may appear life did not turn out not exactly the way I expected, I can say that I never been happier. I sold most of my businesses for a profit, I left the Airport to pursue a new career and my ex-wife and I are still very good friends, despite a friendly and amicable divorce. In closing, I am looking forward to an early retirement and learning to sail. I do not know what the journey of life holds for me, but no matter how many highs or lows I may encounter, I will definitely enjoy the ride. I hope everyone is happy, healthy and enjoying life. Life is too short, so enjoy every waking moment.
