Robert's Story
Hello folks,
Wow! Hasn't time flown by quickly?
After graduation, I joined the Marines in "65 and "graduated" at Parris Island, SC. From there, my Military Occupational Specialty was Military Intelligence. Yeh, I know, an oxymoron and "I never knew you were that intelligent". I've heard many responses, that's for sure.
From there, I was stationed in El Toro, CA, Chu Lai/Danang, Vietnam, and then, my last year at the Marine Barracks in good ole Broomstick, ME. What a treat that was!
I married in '68 and have a daughter, Lauri, who unfortunately developed a kidney disease and received a donated kidney from her mother in '84. Knock on wood, her "new" kidney is still working. Close to a record. As things go, the marriage didn't last.
After leaving the Marine Corps, I became a Federal Protective Officer, assigned to the U.S. Courthouse in Portland. After three years, I became a Special Agent with the National Marine Fisheries Service(NOAA) in '74 located primarily in Portland. Fortunately, I think this is one of the best jobs anyone could have, having travelled throughout the U.S., boarding many fishing vessels from numerous countries, and of course, "saving the whales", as well as other marine mammals and regulating the taking of r...Expand for more
egulated species.
After retirement in '96(thank you Uncle, for the monthly stipend)I became a Court Security Officer at the U.S. Courthouse in Portland where I've remained until 9 April 2008, when I "retire for good".
I married a lovely lady three years ago. Bunny just retired from the Postal Service.
Our immediate plans are to initially travel to Florida, yeh you're right, the timing is just a few months off but you can never predict the weather. We'll be visiting with family for a couple of weeks and then off across the country, visiting friends in AZ, UT, and WY and travelling to many of our beautiful National Parks along the way.
Ultimately, we plan on settling around Crossville, TN, where they still have four seasons, great golfing, reasonable/affordable housing, and no state income taxes. We're on no timetable and hopefully we can remain happy and healthy.
The only regret I have is that while at Morse, I was terribly shy and didn't share the many activities with classmates. Oh too have that time machine. Oh yes, another regret is that I didn't buy loads of Microsoft and Google.
Anyways, it's been a treat bringing you up to date on my life. I hope your lives have been very fulfilling.
All the best to you all.
