Robert's Story

Life After High school, and a short time at San Antonio College, I entered the Navy to get that obligation behind me and keep the draft off my posterior. Later, I attended Southwest Texas State University majoring in Business accounting and I am a registered CPA in Texas. For the past 14 years I have lived and worked in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, working for Chevron Corporation, where I head the Central Asian lubricant sales and production from Uz-Texaco Joint Venture. I am married to an Uzbek National, born in Russia, and in June 2007, we adopted an fantistic Uzbek child that we named Richard (Richie) and he has become everything that we had hoped for and an angel from heaven. A wonderful experience!!! I have two grown wonderful children from a previous marriage and seven fantastic grand children. On February 12, 2008 we had a gift from heaven of a wonderful baby boy named Edward. that continues to bring new excitement to a guy my age trying to be a father again. Also wonderful and I would not change anything but we will see whe he is 16 and I am 77!!! I have a home in Garden Ridge just north of San Antonio and a ranch in Lampasas. We try to come home to at least twice a year and more if possible. We raise whitetail deer which always creates new and different experiences when we are there. The ranch is taken care of by my son and son in law and hopefully will provide me with plenty to do when I decide to hang up the spurs or in this case, put on the spurs. I am nearing the end of my Uzbekistan experience where Chevron has decided to sell their interest in the Uz-Texaco Joint Venture; therefore, we will return to Texas probably this summer....Expand for more
Life here has been sometimes difficult and sometimes wonderful. The closer I get to leaving, the more I remember the good times and all the wonderful friends that we have known from all over the world for over 14 years here and the employees that have stayed with me through out the entire period even though business was not always easy. Uzbekistan has been a wonderful experience and has allowed me to try many new things including a totally new culture and great travel experience. Uzbekistan being a Muslim country offers a rich and diversified culture. We have travelled throughout the former Soviet Union with my regional office located in Moscow and my wife's relatives in Russia. European trips are normal for business and we also travel to Asia for vacations when possible. My work with Chevron has been exciting and the expat life style suits me well. In Uzbekistan, we produce lubricants at our plant in Fergana, Uzbekistan and sell product throughout Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union. Many things about this I will hate to leave. I expect to repatriate to San Antonio and spend a short time with Chevron in the United States, mainly to finallize a few things and then I plan on seeing what else in life that I want to do. I expect doing a little travel with the family in the United States and show the boys some of what the United States has to offer. The world is beautiful but when you are gone as much as I have been, you dream of Big Ben National Park and all the beautiful things that we have. And I must say also, they are available at bargin prices compared to other spots in the world. I hope to see any one willing to drop by.
