Robert's Story
Life
I was born in Ontario, Oregon and attend various schools in the Ontario schools system. Until I joined the Army in my junior year of High School. I served in Vietnam from 65 to 66. and finished my miltary career at Fort Carson ,Colorado. Returned to Ontario until 1972 when I left for California to Marry my Wife Maria. We have just celebratd our thirty first Anniversary in May. We have one child, a son name Ben who works for BMW. I worked for Southern California Edison for twenty one years Until I had to retire about year ago due to health concerns. Maria worked as a medical research Labratory technician and manager at Unniversary of Southern California. After twenty years with the USC Medical school, she returned to school and is now a family practice doctor. Her practice is in Yorba-Linda, California. We live in the community of Chino HIlls which in San Bernadino county adjanct to the Orange /Los Angeles/Riverside county lines. I still miss Ontario and would have return, after retiremnet, but Maria's family lives in San Diego.
School
I remember all the friends I made over the years. And I am sad that I did'nt keep in touch with them. I did enjoy school but I was one...Expand for more
of the of the ones more interested in cars and girls. I went into the Army from my junior year, that was December 1964. No one had heard of Vietnam yet. I finally went back to school in 1974 at Mt. San Antonio college in Walnut Ca. I am just 12 unit shy of my degree, Work and family kept me busy but now that I am retired I am going go back to finish.
Military
I went into the Army in 1964, before anyone had paid any attention to a place called Vietnam. I did my basic training at Fort Lenard Wood Missouri(or nick named Fort Lossed in the woods missery) For my advance training I attended helicopter maintenance school at Fort Rucker Alabama. Then I was transfered to the 11th General Support company 1st Cavalary Divsion. We left for Vietnam from Savanah Georgia on a ship spent 30 days in route. When we arrived in Vietnam. I was with the 11th GS until I transfered to Charlie company 229th Assault Helicopter Battalion. I finished my tour as helicoter crew chief and return to the states completeing my military career at Fort Carson, Colorado. I attempted tp reenter the Army in early 69 but didn't pass the physical due to damage to my kidney caused by the wound received in 1965.
