Robert's Story
Life
All-in-all, lifes been good to me. My wife and I have been together for 12 years now. Weve got three kids together an 11 year old son, a 7 year old daughter and a happy, healthy boy of nearly 2 years old. Ive also got a 15 year old son and a 14 year old daughter from my first marriage.
Over the years, Ive traveled a lot and Ive done a lot too. I spent 4 years in the Air Force, just after High School. Most of my time in Air Force was spent in Great Britain. In fact, I stayed in the UK for 2 years as a civilian, even after Id gotten out of the Air Force. My two older kids are dual citizens. They live in the UK, with their mother.
My wife is from Detroit. She and I left Detroit in the fall of 1998, for the high times and adventure of contract employment on civil engineering projects. Professionally, I do drafting, design and computer programming for civil engineering companies. Its a pretty good gig; the pay is always good, and it has allowed me to travel and see the country. Weve lived in Denver, Baltimore/Washington D.C., San Antonio, Las Vegas and Phoenix. Were currently calling Austin, TX home. Weve also visited Dallas, Atlanta, northern ...Expand for more
Florida, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, San Francisco, The Gulf of Mexico and Washington State either for work or pleasure. In all our moving and traveling, we made it a point to take in all the sites natural and manmade. From one place to another, things may look vastly different at a glance but a deeper look reveals a deeper understanding.
When you take in that much of the country, you see and appreciate the diversity in people, landscape and culture here in America. You also see that despite obvious differences in landscapes, people or cultures, there are wonderful threads of commonality among all. You see the wonder and majesty of God in all of nature. You see American ingenuity and optimism expressing itself in every metropolis, every two-horse town and everything in between. You witness great and small acts of kindness every day. They are a constant reassurance and if youre me, these acts of kindness reaffirm your own sense that the world and the people in it are basically good.
For the next several years, well be living in Austin, and enjoying all that Texas has to offer. Great food, the great outdoors and plenty of good people to share it all with!
