Robert's Story

Medically retired Navy Sailor. Married to the former Janice L. Cardnell of Port Richey, FL. We have two sons Christopher and Nathan, and three grandchildren Kayliegh, Maxwell and Adam of New Port Richey, FL. After High school I worked various career paths that lead me to the U.S. Navy, were I enlisted in 27 Dec 1987, and enter Recruit Training Command Great Lake IL. I entered Operations Specialist ¿A¿ school in Mar of 1988 where is graduated with honors. In July 1988 I reported to the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), Norfolk, VA, where he was trained as an Anti Submarine Air Controller, controlling various U.S and NATO aircrafts. I went on two deployments, the maiden voyage for the ship and Operation Desert Storm/Shield and Operation Provide Comfort and various operations in the Northern Atlantic and Caribbean seas. In January 1992 I reported to the USS Briscoe (DD-977), Norfolk, VA, as the Anti-Submarine Air Controller, conducting various operations in the Caribbean and the Red Sea. During this deployment to the Red Sea I was part of a Search and Rescue of over 500 passengers of an Egyptian ferry and various small pleasure crafts that were in distress. I qualified as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS). In June 1995 I report to the PCU John C. Stennis (CVN-74), Norfolk, VA, for training and ship¿s commissioning. I served as the Anti-Surface Warfare Supervisor, where I conducting training, design and configuration of the Combat Direction Center for the ship and the PCU Harry S. Truman (CVN-75). I also qualified as an Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist (EASW), Force Over-the-horizon Track Coordinator Watch Officer In June 1997 I report to the PCD McFaul (DDG-74), Norfolk, VA, for training and ship¿s commissioning. During this time he attended the Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare training school where graduated with honors as an Anti-Surface/Subsurface Tactical Air Controller (ASTAC) and earned the recognition as part of the ¿Rat Pack¿. ship¿s maiden voyage during the turn of the Millennium where I built the 6th Fleet web page and various operations in the Caribbean Sea conducting sea trials and shake down cruises. In May 2000 I reported to Commander in Chief Atlantic Fleet (CINCLANTFLT)/Commander Atlantic Fleet (COMLANTFLT)/Fleet Forces Command (FFC) command center, Norfolk, VA, as a FOTC watch officer. I qualified as a Command Duty Officer during the terrorist attack on the USS Cole, and 9/11 attacks. I was promoted to Chief Petty Officer. In August 2003 I reported to the USS Nassau (LHA-4), Norfolk, VA, as the OI Division Leading Chief Petty Officer/CIC Leading Chief Petty Officer. I served as the Expeditionary Strike Group Six (ESG-6) Global Command and Control System ¿ Maritime (GCCS-M) Data Base Manager (DBM)/CTPM Watch Officer, Combat Systems Training Team (CSTT) scenario generator/Intergraded Training Team (ITT) scenario generator and Ship Operations Readiness Training Systems writer/coordinator. I served onboard during New Horizons Haiti and various other operations and training and sea trials. Went on a deployment for Iraqi Freedom where he was Medic-vac back to Norfolk VA. In January 2006 I reported to Joint Transformation Command ¿ Intelligence, Norfolk, VA, as Multi-Media Information Specialist. I served as a Photographer, Engraver and Lithograph reproductions and computer graphic artist. Currently working as Visual Information Specialist for the Department of Defense. My awards are as follows: Meritorious Service Medal Navy Commendation Medal Joint Service Achievement Medal Navy Achievement Medal (4) Good Conduct Medal (5) Humanitarian Service Medal and various other campaign medals and Service ribbons. I have sailed to four oceans, and have visited France (my favorit place to visit, also where my wife and I had our honeymoon), Germany (Had a great time there during one of the festials. Sorry Ms. Ford, but the class did not help.), Ireland, Spain, Italy (Great food and alot sites to see), Greese, Turkey, Israli, Egyt, Jordon (Unique place to visit) just to name a few. Now I am in Northern VA working in Photography for the Department of Defense. I have taken pictures at the Senate and the Capital for committee hearings.
