Robert's Story
Let's see, hmmm. Graduated in 1964 from Millikan. Went to Long Beach City College for three years and studied engineering. Took off on a hitch-hiking tour of Mexico, the USA and Canada for a year. Went into the US Army for two years. Trained as an interrogator and intelligence analyst and lived in Washington D.C. and New York City for a year. Got out of the army and went to UC Irvine and studied electrical engineering. Got a job with Disney and worked with the costume designers on the First Electrical Parade at Disneyland, set up the costumes for the Pirates rides in Anaheim and Florida, and costumed the various entertainers that appeared on stage in Disneyland. Enrolled in law school in 1972 and graduated in 1975. Left Disney and taught law school for a year and acted as an admissions officer for the law school during the same time. Got a job as an associate in a firm in Long Beach and then moved to their Orange County and ran their office there. Made partner and eventually left and opened my own practice in real estate and construction law. Got fed up with it all in 1985 and moved ...Expand for more
to Montana for a year working as a logger and living in a log cabin in the high country with a wood stove, my Old English Sheepdog, and neighbors so far away that it was a pleasure to see them after the winter snows. Ran out of money and returned to California and hired myself out as a trial attorney for several firms and traveled around the state trying to work in every courthouse in California (almost made it). Met my wife in 1989 (also an attorney), Had a wonderful son in 1990 (Now completing grad school at Columbia). Appointed to the bench by the Riverside County Judges in 1991 and presided over criminal, civil and family law courts until I had a stroke and had to retire in 2005. Now I spend most of my time working our little ranch and its orchards. I still surf when my body will let me, play golf and volunteer at the church. I am very happy with my life so far except it has gone by so fast and I'm sorry we have not seen more of each other in the last 40 plus years! I hope all of my friends who read this are well and enjoying their lives and families. Drop a note when you get a chance.
