Life
After graduating from high school, I went to Phoenix for training in Automotive maintenance which lasted almost a year.After that Peter Tavares and I decided to join the Army. So in 1977 we flew to Fort Knox, KY for basic training. This move eventually led to a full career with plenty of fun, travel, and adventure. About halfway through my career, in 1997, while I was working as a recruiter in St. Louis, MO; I met the person who would become my wife, Michele. Love at first sight!!!! We've been married for over 18 years and still going strong. We have a great daughter, who is going on 15, and Michele's sister (who is mentally challenged) and also lives with us full time. This gives us all a very different perspective on life. After retiring from the Army I went to Regis University to finish my Degree, and upon completion, began working for Carnival Cruise Lines here in Colorado Springs. hink we have settled into a very peaceful and happy lifestyle here in Colorado. I think about 29 Palms from time to time, and we've gone back to California to visit family and even attended the 30 year bash, but it's really true that you can't go back. I do cherish the good times when I was younger, but at the same time would never give up what I have now. I recently read an article by Greg Mendoza which was very well written and in it he wrote about memories of being a freshman. I swear I could close my eyes (except you can't really close your eyes and still read anything) and it was 1972 all over again. Michele and I agree that what is important to us right now is to give our daughter the best upbringing we can.
