Robert N's Story
Life
If any one remembers me,they'll know I went off to Califronia back in 76. I am still here. I live in Modesto. I lived in San Clemente until 87 and have been in the Central Valley since then. If you dont remember me, I was one of those guy's that had to wear the short hair wigs(remember that!)By graduation it was close to my belt. What rebellious types we were! I used to drive a 66 VW Karman Ghia.
I am a single dad, I married a California girl and was married for 13 years. I got custody of my boy's in 92. My oldest son Robert is 28 and Andrew is 23.
Since I have been out here, I pretty much have been the working type. I've been in the equiptment rental buisness for the past 30 years. I got a job working two weeks after I got here at a small rental center and have been at it every since.
I recently started working for Volvo Rents in Salida, CA.
Life in California has been good. Living by the beach for 11 years was great. I was a beach bum and body surfed alot. There's never a bad day when you can wake up and hear and see the ocean.
I've pretty much lost contact with all my old friend's. I think they thought when I told them I was going to California, I'd be back. If you've ever been here you know why I havent returned. I now live 85 miles east of San Francisco and 40 miles from the Sierra Nevada mountians. I like it here but my heart is in the San Diego area.
I went home in June of 2005 for our 30th high school reunion. I really had a good time there and seeing some old friends. Can't believe it's been over 30 years since I graduated, but then again time has passed really fast. Heck, most of us will be 50 soon, and I...Expand for more
still have some hair on my head. Maybe I can find that old Page Boy wig I chopped up to wear in class to cover up the bear spots! Nah, I cant dig it up, I burned it!
So far life has been pretty good to me. I've been contacted by some friends in knew back in school thru the Classmates network and have had fun trying to remember to the old school days and all that we did.
I spend most of my days working, retirement seems distant to me. I like helping my boys out when I can, we are close and thats what keeps me here in California. When I get the time I like to ride my mountian bike and travel around the state. California is really nice and there is a lot to see and do here. It's diverse in all aspects so it's never dull to be here. I just wish I lived closer to the beach.
My family lives still in Texas and I miss them very much. As I get older I reminise a lot about the old days and the friends I left behind, so It's nice to be contacted by them and hear about what is going on in their life's.
I havent remarried, I've had some close calls, but I think I am afraid to make that big leap of faith again. You know, it's kinda like getting bit by a rattlesnake, next time you see one, you kind of avoid em. LOL! Call me a chicken, or maybe I just havent found the right girl yet. If you remember me, going steady for long periods of time was not one of my strong points. Heck going out with one girl for 13 years was a major accomplishment for me! But I did end up with 2 fine son's, they are the Love's on my life. They are strong and healthy and I hope to end up with some grandchildren some day and I am really looking forward to that!
