Robert's Story
I rarely spoke to anyone in high school. A few people. Tim Mahoney, Pete Wright, Pete Murphy, Tom Lombardi, Jesus Castenada, Paul Noonan. My mother passed away suddenly in '71 when I lived in Bethpage. My father moved he and I to Bellmore for the start of 8th grade.
He then married a woman from Levittown and we moved there for the start of 9th grade at DAHS. A lot of changes to go through for someone as young as I was. I was just starting to readjust to life without my mother and had made a couple of good friends in Bellmore. I was very angry at my father for moving us again. This time to Levittown. I did make very good friends with about seven guys from the class of '78 who lived near me on Albatross Rd. Ray Martinez, Tom McDonald, Brian Bernhard, Mike Lawrence, Mike Grimes, and Scott Henderson. I didn't care that they were a year younger than me . We are still friends to this day. I wish I could go back in time and redo my whole high school experience. I was painfully shy, extremely introverted, and very angry. I now know the Lord Jesus as my personal Savior. I became a born again Christian while I was a Security Policeman in the U.S.A.F. in 1980. The Lord completely changed my life. I have been married only once to the same woman since 1988 who I met at my church I attended back then in Valley Stream. We have a son, 24, and a daughter, 20. I moved from NY in 1993 to Whidbey Island in Washington state. My wife's brother was a Navy Pilot stationed at Whidbey NAS which is how we ended up out there. I was a carpet ins...Expand for more
taller back on LI working on the North Shore and after first moving to Whidbey. Decided to change my direction and worked for the U.S.P.S. as a Rural Carrier. Took too long for full time work. So now I have been a Transit Bus Driver for the past 15 years and will retire from there within the next 7 to 10 years. I am ultraconservative. I am a very patriotic American Veteran who loves my country. I am on facebook with the same profile picture. In looking at my DAHS Graduation pic I now say to myself, what was I ever thinking to walk around looking like that?! I wish I had not shaved for that picture and had left all of my facial hair on for it! Teachers I remember...Louis DesRoches who once told me to just put my name on my test paper and he'd give me a 65! Mr. Wright who once asked me to join the wrestling team. An idea I found to be very repulsive! And Buddah Gough! Buddah, Buddah!
Another teacher's mustache was always lopsided and that always bugged me! Forgot his name though. Lanfear maybe? And who could ever forget Howard Pivnick flexing his chest muscles while shirtless in the gym?! What a weirdo! I am no longer angry, painfully shy, or extremely introverted. Although I do tend to be on the quiet side. Unless that is until I've had my morning coffee. This is according to my bride of 33 years from Rosedale, Queens! I am connected on facebook with '77 alums Tom Gowen, Bob Corbett, Jesus Costenada, Tim Mahoney, Betty Kilbride, Maryanne Montesano, Kevin Cookston, Vinnie Moran, Monica-Pilar Lawrence, and Don Schulein.
