Bob's Story
Life
From high school, I spent 23 years in the Air Force, 16 of which were in Colo. Springs between assignments at NORAD Hq. and the staff at the Air Force Academy. The remaining assignments were spent in Tucson Arizona, Guam, Iceland, Alaska, and Texas. After retiring from the AF, I worked in the aerospace industry for 10 years. In the latter careers, I worked in education and training environments. I recently retired from the faculty as an academic librarian at Tarrant County College in Ft. Worth after having been with the college for 12 years.
Along the way, I earned an AA degree from Pikes Peak Community College, a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Colorado, and earned graduate degrees from CU Denver, and the University of North Texas.
In the Fall of 2004 I returned to Colorado and was soon joined by Lora, my long time Texas sweetheart. Lora and I were married at the AF Academy in the Spring of 2005. We reside in our retirement home on a mountainside just outside of Divide, C...Expand for more
olo.
We share our home with two Cairn Terriers. My hobbies and sports have included skiing (of course), running, skydiving (900 jumps), and training and showing the dogs.
It is sooo good to be home......I have missed these mountains!
Unfortunately after 11 years of residing in our beautiful mountain community at 9000 ft., we had to move to a lower altitude due to my health issues. So, we now reside in Azle, Texas which is about 20 minutes just NW out of Ft. Worth where getting used to the heat and humidity once again has been a bit of a shock. Darn well hated to leave the home state of Colorado and will miss all our friends there!
In August of 2018 the AF Acedemy honored me by naming a huge area of their airfield after me. It is that portion where the cadets are trained and earn their parachute wings. It is now and forever will be the “Olmstead Drop Zone”. This was done based on my years of effort in getting the parachute program started there in 1964. I am overwhelmed with gratitude and appreciation.
