Robert's Story
My life: After high school I bummed around home for three years before I went to college. I attended Shasta Junior College outside Redding, California from 1977-1979 living in the dorms. I received an A.A.Degree in Fisheries Technology( they teach you how to work in fish hatcheries). Thanks to the moron who was running the state, Jerry Brown, there was no jobs to be had in my field of study. So I moved back to Orange County where my family moved to in the summer of 1977. I got a job working in the garden depart-
ment of the local K-Mart in Costa Mesa and I've been in retail horticulture ever since. I've worked at a number of different places, some of which have closed for business and some have not. Places like Angel's Home Center in Santa Ana, Nurseryland Garden Center in Tustin and Huntington Beach, The Home Depot in Westminster, Lowe's Home Improvement in Raleigh N.C., Village Nurseries in Huntington Beach, Armstrong Garden Centers in Irvine and Huntington Beach, Roger's Gardens in Corona Del Mar, and finally Laguna Hills Nursery in Lake Forest.

of living around my sister and her adult children I decided to move to Ohio to try to get employed. There are alot of nurseries and garden centers here so I'm hoping I'll get a job quickly. In the mean time I'm living with my sister and seeing my niece and two nephews at holidays.
Where I'm living is in a valley just north of Akron. It gets an annual snowfall of 48 inches. I should have a good chance of having a 'White Christmas' with sleigh rides and snowball fights-the usual stuff you'd find in snow country.
During the summer there are free concerts every friday evening in a park in downtown Akron. Mostly local bands but sometimes we get bands from Canada,too. One friday a month at our church from fall-spring singles get together to play a card game called euchre. It's only played in Ohio, or so I've been told.
The picture of me in my profile is of the new thinner me. Over the years through bad eating habits and lack of exercise I swelled to 244lbs in weight. At the suggestion of my mother I joined Weight Watchers in October 2008. In a little less than a year I lost 55lbs. I lowered my blood pressure and dropped three pant sizes along the way. I also gained a lot more energy, too.
