Robert's Story
An update for all: My birth name is Robert L. BURKE. My mom divorced and re-married in the mid-fifties. My stepdad's name was POPE, thus I was (Robert L.) Bobby Pope until February 1970, when I enlisted in the US Army. That is when it was discovered that I was never legally adopted. I chose to just go with “Robert L. BURKE” from 1970 thru present day.
If you really want to read my life story (autobiography-- the front cover is shown in "gallery") Just search this link ( you will need to add three w's and a period(.) at the beginning to make it work) : amazon.com/gp/product/1717290264/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It is an interesting read so bring along a 12-pack of beer, or a Bible, or both.
You will not be bored and some of the timeline will bring back good memories from your own life. Love to all.
FYI: the tattoo pictured in "gallery" is on my left calf..
As a side note: I departed Fort Wayne in Feb 1970, not to return until my moms side of the family had a re-union at Garrett, Indiana in summer of 2000 (30 years...Expand for more
later). One day I drove to South Side High School to reminisce and was surprised/shocked/dismayed to see that “my world” no longer existed (I had lived on Clinton Court for 8 years, right across from the old concrete stadium). Quite the bummer, fer sure.
An exerpt from my book, MODUS VIVENDI:
As for rock concerts, the one I remember best of all from back in those days occurred at the Swingin' Gate, a non-alcohol teen club located in a former movie theater in downtown Fort Wayne. The headline rock band was the Who (Magic Bus/the rock opera Tommy/etc.) and, I swear to God, they set their frigging instruments on fire at the end of their gig. Completely blew me away. Suddenly-- a flame drenched flurry of yellow, red, and orange with a blue and purple tint.. Absolutely mind-boggling. I don't know if the Who got the idea from Jimi Hendrix or if he picked it up from watching them. Either way, I knew right then and there that the magical creature known as Rock&Roll was here to stay. And it belonged to my generation. We own it,Baby!!
