Robert's Story
Part of me wants to say it's been a really long time since high school and another part doesn't want to admit just how long it's been.
Still, I don't really feel too much different today than I did back then. I've always said any day above ground is a good day. :-)
Where have I been all these years?, everywhere, or so it seems. I left Grady after my sophmore year to see the world courtesy of good old Uncle Sam.
Seemed like a good idea at the time but then doesn't it always? I finshed school while still in the Army and then attended college afterwards.
I never really cared much for civilian life and after a few years went back in the service, this time with a little more planning and having a general idea what I wanted to do with the rest of my life I chose the US Coast Guard.
Trust me, Search & Rescue beats Search & Destroy...Expand for more
10 to 1. :-)
After another 17 years as a C-130 flight engineer and an H-3 flight crew it was time to hang up the wings and retire.
Now here it is 13 years later and I am still at work for the Coast Guard as a software applications trainer and aircraft analyst.
My job keeps me on the road about 7 to 8 months out of the year but I absolutely love my job, Uncle Sam is paying the bills and I can't imagine ever doing or wanting anything different.
Home for me now is Eastern North Carolina (Elizabeth City), if you like flat farm land and a small town environment then you will love this place.
I've been trying desparately to get transferred to the West Coast for the past couple of years but no luck so far.
Well, that's pretty much it in a nutshell. I hope your lives have been as fortunate and look forward to hearing from you soon.
