Robert's Story

I have a daughter, Nicole, who lives in Seattle, Washington. Me, well after 15 years of living in and around Atlanta, I married Mandy in 1989, a girl I met in Macon and Atlanta, and we moved to a beautiful beachfront in the Caribbean, where I managed the Womens division in the Caribbean for JCPenney and then managed JCPenney's largest store in the World in San Juan, Puerto Rico, till 1994. While in the Caribbean, we had our son, Robert Jr. in May of 1992, he has dual citizenship, and has more frequent flyer miles than me already. He loves to travel. We miss living in the Caribbean, but ask to return back to the states when we found out my mother was terminally ill, I returned in time to spend the last 3 months with my Mother before she died. In January of 1994, the Company moved me to the states, as store manager, it is great to be back in the states. We travel every chance we get, we love it, our family has a place in the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina in Maggie Valley, where we all meet, we love the mountains, where we visit all year. We love to travel out west every chance we get, I love to snow ski! Of all the places we lived and visited, North Carolina will always be home, we visit my dad in Fayetteville often. We both miss living in the sun in the Caribbean, I miss the sailing, and although Mandy was from Georgia, we both miss the friends of Fayetteville that I grew up with. My wife and I are also expecting a new baby on March 28, 2002, we think it's terrific and can't wait. Mandy found out she had breast cancer in December 2002, after much treatment, she passed away on Labor Day weekend 2005, September 4th, she was the sweetest girl in the world, terrible to pass away so young and miss seeing your children grow up. I raised my two boys, Will age 3 and Robert age 13 and enjoyed a lot of things as being a single parent, things most dads might miss, but we made it, both are doing well now. After my wife Mandy passed away on September 4, 2005, my dad passed away soon after on July 29, 2006 and a few months later, Edmond, my brother passed away on March 22, 2007 with cancer, I always remember him as the best "Big Brother always". My son, Robert Jr., &, Will , and myself all miss her greatly and my brother and Dad, but we did things, I was always there for my boys competitions and we enjoyed life. My Daughter is running "Special Fund Raisers" for a group of Hospitals in Seattle, and doing wonderful work and blessed me with great grandkids. My son, Robert Jr., went on to become a 4 time "All American" in track and field, ranked 3rd in the United States...Expand for more
and became a "World Class" competitor in the U.S. Nationals, its wonderful just to look at all his awards as a runner, he is a Doctor now in Cincinnati. My Son Will, starts college in the fall on 2020 and is on his way to a fine Athletic career and Medical career as well, he graduates in May 2024 as a Respiratory Therapist, he has traveled extensively on summer breaks spending summers in Europe, South America and Asia, he has decided to travel in his career, I'm sure he will be happy. I had the great honor to see my son and my grandson graduate from high school the same year in 2020, what a rare thing to have happen, certainly proud of both. Mandy, my Dad and brother would have been so proud of the kids, I wish they could have been there to see and enjoy it with us. In 2015, her name popped up on Facebook as someone I might know, it was Joyce Simmons on "facebook", I always wondered what happened to her, a girl I dated in high school and had a crush on her since I met her in the 8th grade, she was a special friend and the first real date I had. In 1967 when I got my license, I ask out the prettiest girl I had known, one that always had my heart, we went to homecoming together, we were friends, and the next school year, they divided up Fayetteville High School, it became Terry Sanford and opened Reid Ross High School, Joyce had to go to Reid Ross, very sadly, I lost track of her shortly afterwards. Things like "texting and facebook", were not around then, my parents had a "party line" phone, remember those, ha, and we lost contact, we just did not, sadly, bump into each other anymore. I always wondered what happened to the girl that stole my heart so early in life, after we met on Facebook again, I found out her husband had passed away also, I was single again and so was she, we became friends, we started dating and married a few months later in May, 2016,, I told Joyce, she is the girl I always wish I had married, she had my heart from the first time I met her in the 8th grade, Joyce was always special to me, and even more special now. If you wondered what happened to old friends, I can say, I married mine after finding her again. I was not going to let her get away twice in my life! We are grateful to God, for bringing us back together to enjoy our life together, we are enjoying our retirement or I should say, my semi-retirement, I still enjoy staying busy, we eat dinner often with our old friends and think often of the great years growing up in Fayetteville. Life has turned out to be a blessing, my kids and my wife make each day a special memory!
