Robert's Story
Hi Everyone!
It was great seeing many at the 50th.
It's been fun working with fellow committee members and getting together with them anytime I've come down from New Hampshire to visit the Philly area. For those who were there in 2013, it was a great reunion. As one of several reunion committee members, we had a lot of fun!
Life has been good. After graduating from Villanova University, I went into the Navy and spent a few years in the Persian Gulf (it was friendlier then!) and was honorably discharged from the Naval Reserve as a full Commander in 1996.
Married Diane Bensing (Villanova '68 and Prendie '64 grad) in 1969 and moved to New Hampshire in 1972 -- our present stomping grounds are in Jaffrey, NH, about 65 miles northwest of Boston. We hit #45 in December 2014... if she doesn't kill me first!
Decided to leave the corporate rat race and, in 1999, we began Robert Sales Training Associates, a professional sales training, management development and marketing consulting firm. I have enjoyed a lot of international travel over the past few years and have visited Uganda, Kenya, India, Singapore, Europe, Australia, and the UK.
In 1985, I caught the teaching bug and currently teach as an adjunct professor at the University of New Hampshire (Executive MBA Program), as well as at four other universities and colleges.
Diane and I have two children -- Kerri (37) and Bethany (31) -- along with three Brittany spaniels ("Julie," Zoey," and "Murphy"). Both girls graduated from college, so we actually have "some" money now! Kerri married a fine gent from the UK in October ...Expand for more
2005 -- we welcomed Martin to our family. We are finally grandparents with the addition of Aubrey Elizabeth in September 2008 and Brennan in January 2011.
We enjoy being very involved in town activities -- I've been involved in emergency services for 35 years as a firefighter/EMT. Plenty of chaos and some close calls -- one never knows what the next alarm will bring. Some day, I will slow down.
I enjoy catching up with past HHS grads to renew old acquaintances and learn what they've been doing! Just don't remind me of my academic excellence at HHS (arrrrrgh!!). My HHS teachers would never believe I was teaching graduate school!
Had the unique pleasure of meeting with Miss Weiser in 1990 here in NH. After not doing so well in her English class as an eighth grader (I flunked), she decided to change my grade in 1991 to a "1" ...! As the MC at our 45th reunion, I shared how she changed my grade from a "5" (aaaarrrgh!) to a "1" (yesssssssssss)! Do write if you'd like to hear a very interesting story as to what caused that grade to change thirty-two years later...
Please go to the HHS website for pictures of the 50th Class of 1963 reunion. If you have not done so, let us know how to reach you. The 50th Reunion was something special.
Got a moment? Drop me a line -- even if we didn't know each other that well while imprisoned at HHS. More than likely, we have some commonalities in terms of classmates we both knew, teachers we had, activities in which we were both involved.... even if "two ships passing in the night."
Best to all in 2014!
